Personal statement
As a hardworking, self-motivated, highly focused, result oriented and a team-player, I set out to build a career as an accomplished educator, linguist and researcher. My research areas focus on language use in natural discourse settings including motivators of surreptitious Discourse Texts. I have a keen interest in Spontaneous Discourses especially in respect of cross-Cultural Contexts. I parade my understanding of Discourse in such areas as editing, Translation, Research Methods and Methodologies, sociolinguistics and communication Studies, including publishing in Translation & Interpretation, Pragmatics; Language use in Natural Settings, Research Methods in respect of varied Discourse Backgrounds, Language education, Language and gender, Language and communication, Linguistic human rights, Language and new communication technologies, Language and peace, Discourse Analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis, Language for Social integration and development, Communication Skills in varied Discourses; Further, through my sustained research endeavors, I continue to engage in culturally oriented research that brings out the fundamental interactional patterns that underlie such cultural discourses.
Research/professional interests and experience
2021 September to date: Serving Moi University as Associate Professor of Semantics, Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. At PhD level, I teach Translation and Interpretation, Language and Emerging Issues in Africa; Research Methods & Methodologies. Among other responsibilities, I examine courses in Linguistics and Literature to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Levels; I Supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate students’ projects and other experiential learning programmes; I continue to assist in Developing/Reviewing Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses; Initiating, Promoting and participating in research projects and publish research findings’ Providing Academic leadership through Programme development, Mentoring and Research; Providing professional and community services besides initiating strategic partnership and linkages and undertaking fundraising for the University; I also carry out Administrative and such other duties and responsibilities at Moi University.
Achievements
2009 to July 2021: I served as Senior Lecturer at Baraton University (2009 to 2011), University of Kabianga (2011-2014) and Moi University (2014 to 2021). Responsibilities: Supervising and overseeing Design and implementation of degree programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students; engaged in establishing the University Research agenda geared towards advancing community Development and integration as an outreach Programme; I taught University-wide courses as I supervised Undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also served as member of the University Editing and publication committee; Chaired, Research & Extension Monitoring Committee.
2012 January to December, I worked with CfBT Education Trust as a Consultant trainer-The team was mandated to develop the capacity of education Managers and secondary school heads in the country to develop strategic plans. I Participated in the induction workshop to develop understanding of the Decentralized Education Management Authority (DEMA’s) approach to district education sector and secondary school Strategic Planning; As a lead consultant, and together with facilitators from Ministry of Education and other consultants, I trained secondary school facilitators selected to train secondary school heads on Strategic Planning (SP) and Performance Based Management (PBM), in Kisii County.
2013 Dec-2015 July-KICD: Member, Committee for the review of Kiswahili and English Curriculum Formulating minimum curriculum standards for literature and Fasihi material for High school in Kenya; I also participated in Harmonizing the course content for the stated disciplines besides advising the Institute on the literary material for use in High school.
