The study establishes that the Ohangla is a significant mode through which the community has been able to mediate between contesting discourses of ethnicity, nationalism and globalization. Awarded on 10th December 2010. Master of Philosophy in Literature (Moi University): My M.Phil dissertation entitled “ The Discourse of the Nyatiti Form in Ugenya” explores the performance conventions of Nyatiti music and the texts generated among the Luo of the Ugenya region, in Kenya. The study establishes that the genre provides the theatrical space through which the Luo community interrogates what it means to be, in a dialogue consisting of address, argument and play of meaning.
